OUR #COVENTRY21 FESTIVAL

We were delighted to be part of the first two London Borough’s of Culture in Waltham Forest and Brent.

If you saw what happened in Londonderry in 2013 and Hull in 2017, you’ll share our excitement about what is about to be unleashed when Coventry becomes the UK City of Culture for #Coventry2021.

Sadly the launch has been put back to May but there’s no need to wait til then as we’re doing our bit with #Coventry21 that kicked off with a three day Community Art Festival 26-28 Feb, hosted by Joseph Cash Primary.

Like the #YourGlasto and #AimHigh20 Festivals last year we live streamed from a specially created cardboard cathedral stage inspired by the Coventry Cathedrals.

The weekend of 26-28 Feb saw a range of inspiring talks, uplifting performances, creative workshops and community events.

#INSPIREDTOLEARN21 TOUR

Because everything comes in 21’s this year we’re offering 21 of our Live Streamed Community assemblies for School Communities whether in Coventry or anywhere across the UK.

Inspired by the Inspired To Learn philosophy of the Prince of Wales School in Dorchester, it was live streamed to school communities from a cardboard Coventry Cathedral via a GDPR friendly and secure YouTube feed.

Families could watch from and comment on at home as well as to chidlren in school bubbles via Zoom so that everyone felt involved.

Based on our hugely popular live in school talks and workshops, these exciting sessions are for the whole family and cover aspirational messages and stories about the power of creativity and community to help our children and young people make a living, make a few friends and even make the world a better place.

At the end of the session, we will launched the cathedral tower to inspire everyone to aim high with their art

Yes, you had to see it to believe it!

#EVOLVEd21

There’s been a lot of talk about how our kids need to ‘catch up’ after a year of missed and interrupted schooling during lock down , and ‘catch up’ means different things to different people.

To some it’s a case of racing through the curriculum, pressing ahead of learning facts and figures or engaging in sport, art, drama, music and the like that some children will only ever experience at school.

Prof Stephen Heppell believes they’ve escaped the confines of the education system and we now have to catch up with them and he launched his Golden Generation Certificate creator at our first #EvolvEd21 Co-conference as part of #Coventry21.

He spoke alongside Prof Sugata Mitra who is also adamant we shouldn’t go back to school, but seize this moment to help schools, education systems and our chidlren leap ahead.

#MISSION TO MARS 21 TOUR

Our Mission to Mars session and tour are all about inspiring all our kids to aim higher than high.

A live all school assembly in your school hall, as if on a cardboard Mars Base Camp, and live streamed to class bubbles and your school community.

A day of inspiring, engaging and educational creative activities and a real dynamite rocket launch to send everyone home buzzing.

All inspired by a dad who wants to take a million of our kids to Mars in 30 years and another dad who just came back from space and helped sponsor the tour, which made the BBC News.

REWIND

Have a look at the film a dad made for us here of the story so far.

And check out the film here of our #ARTCAMP20 Festival in Devon where we built ‘Castles in the Sky’ - we had real camping, eclectic art trail and performances.

Thanks to you

All of the above has been made possible by emergency grant funding from Arts Council England, The National Lottery, LGfL and Cultural Recovery Fund support from DCMS and HM Treasury for which we are very grateful.

It’s not only enabled us to completely re-engineer our community engagement model but share that knowledge with other organisations to help them do the same.
