11:30 The Golden Generation

prof.png

Never has the way we teach and test our kids been so under the spotlight, and never have so many people been so involved in it. We were incredibly honoured to have education guru, Professor Stephen Heppell, whose ‘eyes on the horizon’ approach and impactful large-scale projects have established him as a global leader in learning and tech. Find out how you could be doing things differently, and why Professor Stephen believes that children of today are the Golden Generation. Chatting with us all afternoon, he was there along with student and school funding advocate, Aaliya Kennedy. Listen for how to print your own certificate of accomplishments.

12:30 Brave New World Warriors

We didn’t delve into the Havard graduate’s extraordinary life path, and hope to do it soon. Mom Haviva Kohl, education and creativity advocate. The once upon a time Executive Director of Teachers Without Borders in Seattle and Education Director for Miracle Corners of the World in Tanzania and Director of Entrepreneurship Programs at the United Organizations of Williamsburg, New York, and now Google talent-spotter. She joined the panel, dishing out tips on the qualities global companies look for in potential recruits. Take note.

Karem.png

Here talking about the power of establishing relationships is science teacher Karam Bales. He works with students who have a lot of barriers and struggle to stay in the mainstream. Every good teacher listening will acquire invaluable insight.

13:30 Inspired to learn

Gary.png

Everything that is worth doing is hard. Learning is something we should grapple with … something that should be a challenge. If it’s not challenging, then we’re not learning. These are the words of Gary Spracklen, Headteacher at The Prince of Wales School. Hear what he has to say about the tradional models of education breaking down. The world isn’t going to explode because children are not sitting exams.

14:00 What now?

sugata.png

Winner of the first Global TED prize for his Granny Cloud, a thoughtful Professor Sugata Mitra imagines the post pandemic world, and what might happen when schools all over the world are open again. An optimistic vision of turning teaching on its head, insight from Socrates, and some gentle reminders that time only moves forward.

19:30 FirePit Chat with Chris Sullivan

chrisnick.png

Chris puts Nick in the hot seat. They dig into thoughts as to why Coventry is such a vital city. Plus a heated political match up, all in the name of progress and establishing positive policies. Don’t want to miss this.

20:30 shining bright

Hayley.png

What a treat for the closing night that Hayley Hindle shone so bright with her poetic flame and ice inspired light installation – REACH. The installation will be in the Belgrade Theatre windows mid-March to coincide with the anniversary of lockdown. And hopefully, hundreds of them will go up in Coventry Cathedral as a Covid memorial to lives lost in the city.

20:50 Open mic!

Having followed us all weekend, commenting and sharing, it was only fitting that Rachel Holt grace our cardboard stage on closing night. She smashed it with humour and grace, music and dance. A must watch!

THANKS TO YOU

All of the above has been made possible by emergency grant funding from Arts Council England, The National Lottery, LGfL and Cultural Recovery Fund support from DCMS and HM Treasury for which we are very grateful.

It’s not only enabled us to completely re-engineer our community engagement model but share that knowledge with other organisations to help them do the same.
