11:00 #ArtofCommunity
What a better way to kick of Saturday’s programming of this art festival bigging up the next City of Culture than with Coventry’s own acclaimed singer and BBC Radio presenter, Sandra Godley. Feel her excitement, and consider how passionate about your own city …
11:25 Looking Forward
Words of encouragement from the Minister of State for Digital and Culture, Caroline Dinenage MP.
11:30 Cardboard Modelling Workshop
You are imagination. Snap your fingers, and the church steeple turns into a cardboard rocket shooting into space. Gather your crew, boxes and scissors, and ride shotgun with our resident cardboard master Darrell Wakelam as he takes us on a fun carboard rocket building workshop.
12:00 Online Creativity Summit
Live from Russia, you are invited to become a citizen of Cardboardia, a country without borders and one natural resource – creative energy! Harness yours in this wacky workshop for creating crazy cardboard tools. Get your papers and scissors, and try your hand at designing a voting tool like no other!
14:00 #ArtofClayandCeramics
Natalie Armitage from the British Ceramics Biennial based in Stoke on Trent offers exciting insights on how clay and ceramics can be used to enhance educational experiences.
15:00 Women In Theatre
Francesca Robson is a massive advocate for working class female artists working in Community Arts, and champions giving underrepresented communities the tools to be able to run their own workshops and take positions in theatre across the board. We were delighted to catch up with her.
15:30 Colour and Rhyme!
Recited by the author herself, enjoy funny, silly and surprising poems for children by Sarah Wood, an American mother of six living a life of creativity in the North West.
16:00 Lockdown Bonding, Everlasting Love
“The best thing to come out of lockdown is that my daughter and I have started singing together... So, we are new to this duo stuff. Every now and then we will text each other and ask, 'shall we do a song'? For me... I love it! If it helps build my daughters confidence to sing, then I've done something I've been afraid of doing my whole life! I just want to see her shine bright.” This is what it’s all about, we say! Meet Tyrone and Lilly-mae.
16:30 Connecting Post-Covid
A 6-minute self-produced film made during lockdown in Coventry with 6 young people. The body feels relationship - proximity - and commands the brain against reason or logic to defer to ‘sense’. Hmm, you figure it out. The film’s editor, Sherrie Edgar dropped in to bring us up to speed.
17:00 Together In Rhythm
Music strengthens social bonds. Mamajay harnesses her musical power to inspire people of migrant backgrounds to express themselves through song and connect with other new arrivals and the local Coventry community
20:30 FirePit chat with chris sullivan
Chilling in his lockdown den, we tracked down the amazing Bassie of The Selector, the 2 Tone ska revival band superstar. Drop in and enjoy the conversation.
21:15 The Soundtrack For Britain
Sandra Godley, our co-curator for this Community Day has performed funk, disco, house, soul, and R&B, gone from dance diva to elegant songstress. Now watch her rocking on the cardboard Coventry Cathedral stage.
21:30 Big Dreams Fill Big (Dancing) Shoes
DJ Cullum 14 finds strength is his autism. He wished to follow in his uncle’s footsteps, so mum brought him a small deck and the rest is history. Coventry was on fire!
22:30 Cathedral Rocket Launch
The moment we have been waiting for! Coventry, the next City of Culture has always, and always will, rise from adversity. That spirit is captured by its modern cathedral, which stands tall alongside the ruins of its predecessor. See with your own eyes, as our state-of-the-art cardboard cathedral spire becomes a rocket and blasts off into a disco ball planet higher and farther as your imagination will take.

THANKS TO YOU
All of the above has been made possible by emergency grant funding from Arts Council England, The National Lottery, LGfL and Cultural Recovery Fund support from DCMS and HM Treasury for which we are very grateful.
It’s not only enabled us to completely re-engineer our community engagement model but share that knowledge with other organisations to help them do the same.
